10/15/09 (Thursday): We're feeling laid back and happy. The weather isn't cooperating, but even that has its advantages. We're forced to take it easy for a while. Before it turned rainy and cold, we took a couple of drives on the Blue Ridge Parkway and had a great hike up Flat Top Mountain. It's impossible to get the impact of the color laid out on the mountains, but enjoy my attempts anyhow. The orchard at Alta Pass on the Blue Ridge Parkway grows heritage apples. We enjoyed browsing through the store and sampling some apples. We brought home a bag that we've been enjoying stewed with dinner.

Remember barn quilts? There are some new ones since our last summer in Boone. We love seeing the Christmas tree farms, too.

The little town of Todd, which has always been a favorite destination for us, had a fair with music, arts and crafts and food. We especially enjoyed the music and our friend, Lynne's, photographs

As you can see in this picture of Fred's Mercantile, it was sometimes foggy when we got to the top of the mountains. We had a great soup and sandwich lunch here. It was beautifully decorated for autumn

I'll close with a few random autumn shots for your viewing pleasure.

We'll see everyone soon!

Really looks like you are in god's country now. I was born just over the ridge so to speak. No matter the weather you two always seem to be able to smell the roses. Troy a

hmmm...thought I had already posted this but.... I sure wish I would have known you were in Boone. We just returned to Florida this past Saturday. We rented a cabin up in Jefferson, NC - actually went to Daniel Boone restaurant in Boone on Thursday. We probably passed each other sightseeing on the Blue Ridge!! Take care. Paula

Well, darn! Sorry to have missed you, Paula. We were in West Jefferson today. Were you in the rain most of the time? Yesterday there was snow on many of the peaks! We'll be in New Smyrna Beach for the winter (Nov 1). Let me know if you (and any of the rest of the gang) would like to get together for lunch one day.

I understand there has been snow there already. I Suspect your local newspaper will have already printed the blurb " no two snowflakes are aiike." From now til Spring they will print this three times a month. Over the years it has driven batty. I ponder in the stllness of the night watches...how do these flaky mavins know this to be so. Find out before you leave there. Troy

We had rainy/cloudy days most of the week but we didn't mind. Your Fall pictures last year is the reason we went up to the Boone area this year - they were so pretty (and we weren't disappointed). Let me know when you're back in town and we can do lunch!! So glad you're feeling better. Tell Wiley hello.
