10/7/07 (Sunday): Made it to our first stop (Kankakee, IL)! The trip took about 6.5 hours (215 miles) and was uneventful. We drove around Gary, Indiana and Chicago. After that, there were acres and acres of farmland. We're now at the Kankakee KOA Campground. It's nothing particularly special, but it was cheap and had WiFi, and it's close to the prairies we want to visit tomorrow. We're here for 2 nights, and tomorrow we'll go to Medewin Prairie. It's a remnant of the thousands of acres of tallgrass prairie that once covered this whole area. Hopefully, I'll have some good pics tomorrow.
For those of you who are following this trip, here's a map. We followed the route highlighted in blue and detailed in yesterday's blog. We'll continue on 57 south to I-70 and then I-44 west.
See you tomorrow!

About Me
- Joyce and Wiley
- We took early retirement from careers as Executive Assistant (Joyce) and Lawn Care company owner (Wiley). We have been full-time RV'rs since March, 2006. We've taken our RV to Maine, Michigan, California, North Carolina and everything in between. We live in Florida in the winters and travel in the summers. It's a tough life, but someone has to live it!

Fantastic. Yes, Wi-Fi is wonderful.
I noticed the campground said "pull-through with charge." Do you mean campgrounds are now charging extra just because a site is a pull-through? My goodness. Soon a campsite will cost as much as a hotel room.
We didn't get a pull-through site, but most campgrounds do charge extra for them. This one is only about $20 per night, but in more frequently visited areas they can run $40 to $50 per hour. Still, I'd rather stay in my own RV than in a hotel room. I love to travel long distances and still be at home!
Looking at the map stirred up memories. Our friends Gary and Matu lived in Ottumwa Iowa, We drove to Iowa to visit them some years ago.On our way back home we visited with Uncle Frank and family. They lived in Belleville IL.Going to St Louis to see the Arch was the highlight of our trip. "Happy Trails" Keep it between the lines.
Sad but I don't have a clue what a pull through site even means. Hope the prairies were fun, don't think I have ever even seen one.
A "pull through" site is simply a campsite that you don't have to back into. You pull through from one road to another.
